About Me: Embracing Resilience and Empowering Others

Hello there, and welcome to my blog! I’m delighted to have you here and share a little bit about myself. My name is Claudette, and I am a Jamaican living in Merida, Mexico.

I was sexually molested by my grandfather between the ages of 7-9 years old. When my mother found out nothing was done about it and we continued to live with him. I still had to address him in the same manner and the matter was just swept under the rug.

Fast forward to adulthood and my first job straight out of high school. I was working in a government organization where out of 15 employees in that section I was one of two females.

As is usual in these situations I was very excited about my new job. I was on time and did everything I was required to do to the best of my abilities.

One day my coworkers called a meeting and advised me that my gung-ho attitude was making them look bad. They taught me how to cut corners which I did.

The long and short of it is my supervisor found out and gave me an ultimatum to sleep with him or be fired. So I quit.

I went through a few jobs after that with the same result sleep with the boss or quit. I don’t think I have been employed anywhere for more than two years.

On the way home from work one evening I was raped on the lawn of someone’s home in a mid to upper-class area. When I went to the police station to report it I was treated in such a way that I walked out without completing the report. I made a decision that night that changed my life forever.

That decision led me down a pathway that had me living in a way that I had never foreseen. I became a drug addict, addicted to crack cocaine.

I became an exotic dancer and exchanged sexual favors for money. I ended up homeless in two countries and went to jail in three.

I have been raped on multiple occasions and was suicidal for most of my life. I made bad choices repeatedly and lived a life of hell for many years.

The one thing that kept me hanging on was my conversations with God. Through it all He never left me. In our conversions when I asked him why he would tell me that I am being prepared for something big.

You see what kept me alive, the only thought that did, was when I come through, if what I went through could help someone else then it would have all been worth it.

My life path is a long and arduous one and there are many details that have not been included. The one thing I know is that there is nothing that anyone anywhere could tell me they have done or have had happened to them that would shock me.

So if any part of my story resonates with you this blog is for you. I came through and so can you.

Let me show you how I made it through.  I am still working on myself. Let us help each other grow because as a unit we can overcome, be resilient and make the change. It’s never too late
