My name is Claudette. I am the woman behind 50 Plus Rebirth and the Jamaican Gypsy Granny, and for as long as I can remember, Portland, Jamaica has been calling me home.
I was born there. Spring Bank Road. A river through the back of the yard. Trees older than anything I have seen anywhere else in the world. My mother ran two stores. My father photographed the island for the Jamaica Gleaner. It was the kind of childhood that Portland gives you, held by nature before you know enough to be grateful for it.
Life took me away young. We moved to Kingston. And what was waiting for me there changed everything. A grandfather who should have been my safe place became instead the person who tore my childhood open. Who took something from a little girl that no little girl should ever have taken from her.
Just like that, the girl from Spring Bank Road was gone.
What came after was a different life entirely. A harder life. A life that asked me to be strong before I was ready, to rebuild before I had finished grieving, to keep moving when everything in me wanted to stop.
This retreat is me finally answering it.
And I am not going alone.
I am bringing women with me.
Portland is not just beautiful. Portland has a soul.
This is the land of the Maroons. They are Africans who escaped slavery and ran into the Blue Mountains and built free communities when freedom was not supposed to be available to them. Portland gave Jamaica its only National Heroine. The Right Excellent Queen Nanny of the Maroons, a woman who led her people in battle against the British and won. UNESCO has recognized the Maroon heritage of Portland as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The land where we are gathering is the same land where women ran toward freedom when the world told them they had none.
There are seventeen rivers in Portland Jamaica . The highest rainfall on the island. Mountains that have been standing since before this island had a name. The Rio Grande. Reach Falls. Guests stay in a stunning private two villa property in Portland, Jamaica with exclusive use. This means no other guests, no strangers, just our group and the land.
- What is the cancellation policy?

- I am not Jamaican. Is this retreat for me?
Absolutely. You do not have to be Jamaican for Portland to claim you. Women from all backgrounds and all countries are welcome. The herbs, the land, and the healing do not check your passport.
- I am not yet fifty. Can I come?
Yes. The Rebirthers Wellness Retreat is for any woman who is ready, regardless of age. 50 Plus Rebirth has never been about a number. It has always been about the belief that you are allowed to begin again. As many times as it takes.

Hi there. My name is Claudette. I am an entrepreneur, author, content creator, and the woman behind the Jamaican Gypsy Granny and 50 Plus Rebirth.
I came to Jamaican herbs the way most Jamaicans do. We learnt from our parents and grandparents.Through the old people who always had something growing in the yard and always knew what it was for.
I am not a formally trained herbalist and I will never claim to be. What I am is a woman who fell deeply in love with the plants of this island, who researched and learned and documented what she found. I also documented it in a book called Rooted Again,which is a guide to 72 Jamaican medicinal herbs,and their uses.
I am the founder of Claudette’s Jamaican Herbs, a Ministry certified dried herb and tonic business based in Kingston, Jamaica. I am still learning. Every day. And I believe that honesty about where I am in my own journey is exactly what makes this retreat trustworthy.
I am not bringing you to Portland as an expert standing above you. I am bringing you along with me as a woman who has walked this path long enough to know why this retreat is necessary. Who needs it just as much as you do and wants to share it with you.
